JEANNE WEST

Jeanne is the Community Engagement Manager at Hospice of Santa Barbara where she teaches programs relating to end-of-life care, informing the community about HSB, and conducting workshops on advance health care directives. Prior to working with HSB, Jeanne worked with DASH where she had daily conversations about health care planning with newly enrolled clients. She has received numerous recognitions and awards from community groups such as the Alzheimer’s Association Santa Barbara, the Human Services Association and the Central Coast Commission for Senior Citizens. Jeanne has been developing and teaching classes on the importance and meaning of Advance Healthcare Directives since the 1990’s and subsequently developed “action-oriented” workshops geared to helping people complete the document. She was attracted to MVMV because AHD’s have been an area of interest to her for the past thirty years, but most especially because her focus over the past year and a half has been on how to outreach to the Latino community and assist them in completing ACP’s. The Advance Healthcare Documents have improved over the years, as have their use and meaningfulness in a complex health care environment and she is particularly interested in outreach in the Latino community where there has previously been very little support on this subject. In her spare time, Jeanne enjoys cooking, baking, photography and seasonal decorating.
